## Can You Use Multiple eSIMs on One Phone? Everything You Need to Know

When I started using eSIMs seriously, one of my first questions was: can I keep multiple eSIM plans on my phone at once? What happens when I cross from Thailand to Vietnam — do I need to delete one eSIM and install a new one?
The answer is more flexible than I expected.

### How Many eSIMs Can a Phone Store?
| Device | eSIM Profiles (Stored) | Active at Once |
|—|—|—|
| iPhone 13 and earlier | Up to 8 | 1 eSIM + 1 physical SIM |
| iPhone 14 (US, eSIM-only) | Up to 8 | 2 eSIMs simultaneously |
| iPhone 14 (international) | Up to 8 | 1 eSIM + 1 physical SIM |
| iPhone 15 series | Up to 8 | 2 eSIMs + physical SIM |
| Samsung Galaxy S22+ | Up to 10 | 2 active |
| Google Pixel 7 and later | Up to 10 | 2 active |
**The key distinction:** You can STORE many eSIM profiles, but only activate 1-2 at a time.
### What This Means for Multi-Country Travel
For a Thailand → Vietnam → Cambodia trip, I have two approaches:
**Option A — Asia Regional Plan (My Preference)**
Buy one Airalo Asia Regional plan. One eSIM profile, active the whole trip. No switching needed.
**Option B — Country Plans + Switching**
Buy separate country plans. Switch between them in Settings when you cross borders. More management, sometimes cheaper for longer stays.
### How to Switch Between eSIM Plans
**On iPhone:**
1. Settings > Mobile Data
2. Under the data plan you want to use: tap it
3. Tap “Turn On This Line”
4. The previous plan automatically deactivates
**On Android (Samsung):**
1. Settings > Connections > SIM card manager
2. Toggle plans on/off
### Can Two eSIMs Be Active Simultaneously?
On newer iPhones (US iPhone 14 and later, iPhone 15+) and some Android models, yes — two plans can be active at the same time. This means:
– Two eSIM lines active (one for calls, one for data)
– Or one eSIM + one physical SIM both active
For travel, having both your home SIM and a travel eSIM active simultaneously is very useful — you receive calls on your home number while using affordable local data.

### Important: One QR Code Per eSIM Install
Airalo’s QR codes can only be scanned once. Once you install an eSIM profile, the QR code is used up. If you delete the eSIM from your phone, **you cannot reinstall it using the same QR code** — you’d need to contact Airalo support for a new one.
Moral: don’t delete eSIM profiles casually. Simply deactivate them if you want to switch.
### Managing Multiple Country eSIMs
For a long trip with multiple country plans:
1. Install all country plans before leaving
2. Keep them all stored (deactivated)
3. Activate the relevant country plan when you arrive
4. Deactivate (not delete) when crossing to the next country
This is a clean system that works well — just make sure you have internet access to install them before you need them.
